A series of insights and inspirations from Quinn’s creative strategists. Today, we hear from Brooke Shaughnessy.

Who or what inspires you?
My greatest source of inspiration comes from my dad, James Shaughnessy.  He married my mom when I was nine and my sister was six, graciously welcoming us into his heart and (strong) arms. As a world-record-holding power lifter, business owner, commercial property owner, provider, husband and father: he’s the hardest worker I know. His strength, not only in work but also in his faith, has taught me that if you want something you have to work hard for it, that life isn’t always fair and that it’s OK to mess up sometimes. I’m overwhelmed by the love he shows his family, the support he gives his friends and his generosity to those less fortunate. I’m proud to say he adopted me in 2009, and I’m the luckiest girl in the world to share the last name ‘Shaughnessy’ with the man who has pushed me to earn everything I have today.

Why Quinn?
My friend and sorority sister (Delta Gamma) interned and was later hired by Quinn. I’d trust her with my life, so when she passed along the opportunity to join the Quinn community (and raved about how much she loved it here) I jumped at the chance. I was immediately amazed at the passion, compassion and drive this agency shows for not only our work but for each other as well. I met one of the best friends I’ll ever have on my first day and I just knew we’d find our niche at Quinn. A year and a half later and I still feel that way!

If not PR, what?
Oddly enough, I’ve always wanted to be a hairdresser. I don’t think my parents would’ve been too thrilled if after four years of earning spots on both the Deans and President’s List at Hofstra (GO PRIDE!) I didn’t use my degree for a PR job. I don’t think I’ll ever want to leave PR now that I’ve had a taste, but maybe someday I’ll have a beauty salon on the side… you never know!

Favorite quote?
“I’ll be the anchor that keeps your feet on the ground. And I’ll be the wings to keep your head in the clouds.”  This quote perfectly describes me and my sister. I can be a little too serious and she can be a little too crazy. We balance each other out and we’re best friends because of it.
